Since the inaugural event in 2012 the 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon has raised more than $1.5million for charities and local community groups.

Atlas Multisports managing director Jason Crowther, event director of the 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon, said it was humbling to have achieved such support in the event’s first eight years.

More than 6400 runners took part in 2019 helping to raise over $140,000 for major beneficiary Ronald McDonald House Charities and other Sunshine Coast-based community groups.

“We couldn’t be happier to be able to announce the final fundraising tally for 2019,” Mr Crowther said.

“We see firsthand how these funds benefit organisations such as the RMHC and what they can provide for local community groups who rely heavily on this kind of support.

“Our motivation all along has been to create a long-term sustainable event that not only generates serious funds and awareness, but the community can feel proud of and feel a real connection to.”

This year the event saw 4 course records broken including the Australian All Comers female record.  Over 50% of runners posted a Personal Best (PB) time, making it one of the fastest years yet.

Mr Crowther said the positive feedback and ongoing support provided further incentive to raise the bar for the 2020 event.

“The key is to keep evolving,” Mr Crowther said.

“As event organisers we have to constantly find ways to make our event better and more professional. We don’t take anything for granted and we work hard to involve all parties to ensure the event not only runs smoothly but it has long-term appeal to runners and spectators. We want it to be an experience they choose to come back for.”

The ninth 7 Sunshine Coast Marathon will be held on August 16, 2020 with super early bird entries opening on November 1, 2019.
